February Markets, Introducing Beceries Cakes

The days are getting longer, and the first signs of spring are appearing. February sees the markets back to full strength after some of our producers took some well-earned time off in January. As mentioned last month, we now operate the market in Southsea on the 3rd Sunday of each month. We’ll begin introducing Southsea producers in this newsletter, starting this month with Beceries Cakes.

Chairmans Note

Hooray for saying goodbye to the month that felt like it would never end. We are finally in February!

The month that sees snowdrops, the first daffodils, slightly longer evenings and a tiny bit of grass growth back in our fields. It also sees our first lambs of 2026, who arrived uneventfully in a dry stable while it was hammering down outside. Other positives include being able to see outside past 5 pm without a headtorch and being woken by an emerging dawn chorus, heralding the start of better times…

This month, we’re back in full swing at Haslemere and Milford. Familiar faces have returned after a January hiatus, and we’re thrilled to announce that Southsea Farmers’ Market is now part of the South West Surrey portfolio. Although Southsea has seen a recent decline in producers, it has been loyally supported by some of our members, who have dedicated followings. We have stepped in to secure the future of this market and aspire to restore it to its previous capacity, just as we have successfully done with Haslemere in the past couple of years. All of this has been made possible thanks to the community’s unwavering support for authentic, high-quality food delivered by our talented and passionate producers. We will focus on Southsea on our social media as we introduce the producers and what will be on offer.

We remain keen to introduce local charity stalls in Milford, particularly those that support the environment or community. Please get in touch with us to discuss this further.
