July Farmers’ Markets, Including 2 in Southsea

Phew, wasn’t June a scorcher? And we’re heading into July with not 3, but 4, red-hot markets for you.

Many of our producers will be in attendance at the Southsea Food Festival this coming Sunday. Overall, there will be around 100 producers for your delight. The weather is looking gorgeous this weekend, so why not plan your visit to Haslemere on Saturday and then Southsea on Sunday?

Chairmans Note

Welcome to July, the month when we can really start to eat outside. That being said, I think we spent the majority of June in the shadiest areas of the farm as possible! This is the time of year when we historically start to see more festivals and different events. We are supporting the Southsea Food Festival on the 5th of July, so look out for some of your favourite producers there. It will be a large event with over 100 producers. 

We also need to celebrate the success of Butler Country Estates for achieving gold in the prestigious dairy-free awards with their dairy-free smoked trout pate. Fantastic news! (read more)

Where possible, our producers really listen to their customer base and try to develop ranges that are more inclusive and supportive to a wider community.

Meanwhile, on the farm, June has presented us with some challenges in terms of keeping animals cool and ensuring that grass is in good supply. We have brought in our first lot of hay, with much more to come in once it’s been cut and baled. So far, the grass crop is certainly better than last year. 

The sheep have been shorn, but we had to step in and do the alpacas ourselves. That was certainly an experience!

By the end of the month, the first batch of ewes will be back with the rams ready for our January lambing, and our cycle just starts again. It’s always quite exciting having to plan so far in advance, but sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and enjoy the sound of sheep eating grass and looking at the product of all of your hard work throughout the year.
