In a remarkable union of conservation and craftsmanship, Pete Richardson, co-founder of the world’s first baby rhino orphanage, recently acquired the Urban Rhino brand.

Pete was working in the Waterberg area of South Africa when the rhino poaching crisis hit the headlines back in 2012 and along with conservationist Arrie van Deventer, was part of the team that took action to save the orphaned babies and went on to establish the world’s first purpose-built facility – The Rhino Orphanage www.therhinoorphanage.co.za

Eleven years later in a story well worth hearing Pete acquired the gin company and donates 10% of profits to his orphanage via the amazing charity Waterberg Rhino UK. Pete lives in Windlesham and works with his partner Sarah on developing the Urban Rhino brand as she’s head of marketing.

Urban Rhino Premium London Dry Gin may only be a few months old but the guys have already been named a global Top 10 conservation brand and won a GOLD MEDAL at the prestigious Spirits Business Global Gin Masters Awards as recently as December.

And in April 2024 the guys launched their new African Spiced rum. YUM!
